Did you know that during the Second World War the cruiser Rex ran aground off Izola? It was as large as the Titanic, even more luxuriously fitted out, and so fast that in 1933 it set the speed record for crossing the Atlantic. Before it ran aground, it was thoroughly plundered and then cut up for scrap metal; the remains of the ship now lie on the seabed near Izola.

Today we can admire Rex only in photographs, yet many interesting stories still circulate about it. Set off in Rex’s footsteps – a surprise may be waiting for you.

In the past, some newspapers reported that during World War II a German officer hid a rich treasure in cabin 87 on the ship Rex. After the war, the officer was even accused of concealing assets, but they were unable to prove his guilt. But what if the treasure really did exist?
